Acupuncture is a complete medical system rooted in over two thousand years of Chinese medicine. Using very fine needles — far thinner than those used for injections — your practitioner stimulates specific points along the meridians, or energy pathways, that run throughout the body. This brings the body back into its natural, balanced state.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the theory of harmonious balance. When the body is in perfect harmony, it is not ill. Through detailed diagnostics, your practitioner identifies exactly where imbalances exist in the meridian system and corrects them — treating not just the symptom, but the underlying pattern that produced it.
At Meridian, every acupuncture session begins with a thorough assessment. No two treatments are the same, because no two patients are the same.
Your session begins with a detailed discussion of your health history, current concerns, and wellness goals. Your practitioner then performs pulse diagnosis, examines your tongue, and palpates the meridians of the arms, legs, and abdomen — three forms of observation that reveal the pattern at the root of your condition.
Acupuncture points are chosen and stimulated according to your diagnosis. The needles are incredibly fine — most patients describe the sensation as a subtle warmth, a gentle heaviness, or a light tingling. Many fall asleep. Treatment may be followed by moxabustion or cupping therapy where appropriate.
Acupuncture works cumulatively. Acute conditions often respond in 3–6 sessions; chronic conditions benefit from ongoing care. Your practitioner will discuss a personalized plan at your first visit so you know what to expect and can track your progress over time.
Moxabustion is a complementary technique often used alongside acupuncture. It involves gently warming the meridians using a Chinese herb called Ai Ye — mugwort — which is burned indirectly over the skin to produce a penetrating, therapeutic warmth.
Moxa is particularly effective for conditions involving cold, deficiency, or stagnation — including certain pain patterns, digestive issues, and fatigue. Your practitioner will recommend it when it is the right tool for your pattern.
Acupuncture has a broad clinical reach. The following conditions are among those most commonly addressed at Meridian — if you don't see your concern listed, call us to discuss.
New patients are welcome. Your first visit includes a full intake and your initial treatment.
